The presenter notes
Everything the person at the lectern needs: how the deck works, the two timed cuts, what to say and click on every slide, and the rehearsal record proving every live link answered when the tour was walked. Print this page and carry it.
The CIML tour: the presenter notes
Printed from www.oimlsmart.org/tour/notes. The deck lives at www.oimlsmart.org/tour; every demo surface is simulated (a fictional cast, a nightly reset). Rehearsed and link-verified 2026-09-01.
Before you present
- The deck is at /tour. Nineteen slides. Arrow keys, the on-screen buttons, PageUp/PageDown, space, Home/End all navigate; a clicker presents as arrow keys and works untouched.
- Every slide has a stable address. /tour#s07 opens the seventh slide directly; send a committee member to an exact slide with that URL. The slide's own footer shows its address.
- The demo moments are links, never recordings. Each flow slide's Open the live step button opens demo.oimlsmart.org at the exact console and step, in a new tab, so the deck waits where you left it. Assume the persona the slide names through the identity service's account chooser.
- The no-network room is covered. Every demo moment carries its dated capture (2026-09-01) on the same slide; the chip at the top of the deck says honestly which mode you are in.
- Say the honesty rules once, up front. The demo is simulated (the cast is fictional, the instance resets nightly), and the futures are labeled SMART+ on their slides (the twin is the one future slide; say so when you land on it).
- The demo never stalls on the other role. The five flows' waiting cards on the demo instance carry an Advance control — demo instances only, a production instance never renders it — that performs the other role's real act through the platform, in seconds; the audit trail names you with the role you advanced, and a refusal names its blocker honestly. The per-slide notes name each beat.
- The leave-behind prints itself. The seven one-pagers at /about/audiences/one-pagers/ print one sheet each; hand them out at the ask (slide s19), not before.
The 5-minute cut · the committee slot
Eight slides, two live moments (s04 and s08; skip every other link), the governance slide said slowly, the ask at the bell. The timings below are the rehearsed allocations from the two recorded walks. When a live moment would stall on the other role's act, ride the accelerator: the waiting card's Advance control performs that act live (the per-slide notes name the beat at each stall point) — the chain between the submit (s04) and the verify (s08) is exactly where it earns its keep.
| At | Slide | The beat |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | s01 The Digital OIML, live | OIML SMART as a guided tour: every claim one click from a running proof, every demo moment playable live or read from a dated capture. |
| 0:30 | s02 Certification runs on documents, and it works | Today's chain is careful people re-keying careful documents at every hand-off. The medium is lossy; the people are not the problem. |
| 1:15 | s03 The service map | One model at the center, everything else derived: the page you read, the form you fill, the verdict computed, the certificate signed, the register that answers. |
| 2:00 | s04 The form is the Recommendation | The manufacturer applies in a wizard whose instrument form the R 60 model itself authors. Change the Recommendation and the form changes. |
| 3:00 | s07 The verdict computed, the certificate signed | The authority validates the reports against the model, runs the review period, issues the signed certificate, and the BIML registers it: the register anyone can read. |
| 3:45 | s08 Anyone can verify, in seconds | The manufacturer follows every stage, downloads the certificate, and anyone (a customer, a market inspector, another authority) verifies it against the public register. No account, no phone call. |
| 4:15 | s17 The committee decides; the text stays | The adopted text is the source. The model derives from it with clause-level provenance, computes verdicts, and records who decided what. The legal acts stay exactly where the law puts them. |
| 4:45 | s19 Two asks of the committee | Pilot members, and honest feedback. Everything you saw is running today; the doors are open. |
The 20-minute cut · the working visit
All nineteen slides, all five flows live if the network holds, the technologies at one minute each (they are the depth, not the story), questions inside s17 to s19. The last minute of the visit is the room's, not yours. The full, unabbreviated flows are the story here — each flow's walkthrough (linked from its slide) narrates every step; the Advance control stays the fallback for a room that stalls, never the route.
| At | Slide | The beat |

| 0:00 | s01 The Digital OIML, live | OIML SMART as a guided tour: every claim one click from a running proof, every demo moment playable live or read from a dated capture. |

| 3:30 | s04 The form is the Recommendation | The manufacturer applies in a wizard whose instrument form the R 60 model itself authors. Change the Recommendation and the form changes. |
| 5:00 | s05 The honest reject-or-accept | The application lands in the authority's review queue, oldest first. The accept opens the evaluation project: the shared dataspace the three parties work in. |
| 6:30 | s06 Evidence captured at the bench | The laboratory accepts the assignment, joins the project dataspace, and runs the tests the model declares: the procedure walked step by step, the report generated, never transcribed. |
| 8:00 | s07 The verdict computed, the certificate signed | The authority validates the reports against the model, runs the review period, issues the signed certificate, and the BIML registers it: the register anyone can read. |
| 9:30 | s08 Anyone can verify, in seconds | The manufacturer follows every stage, downloads the certificate, and anyone (a customer, a market inspector, another authority) verifies it against the public register. No account, no phone call. |
| 11:00 | s09 SMART Recommendations and Primmel | The Recommendation as a structured, executable model, authored in an open modelling language: one source for the page, the form, the tests, the verdicts, with provenance down to the clause. |
| 12:30 | s10 The SMART Twin (SMART+: the labeled future) | The vision: the Recommendation model as the running instrument's digital twin, the standard declaring the served interface, the compliance engine judging the served evidence continuously. |
| 13:30 | s11 The SMI Simulation | Simulated SMART Measuring Instrument Twins (SSTs) with realistic physics behind the governed twin interface: the full certification workflow rehearsed and taught without hardware. |
| 14:30 | s12 CNML: the certificate as signed data | The Certificat Numérique de Métrologie Légale: signed, time-stamped, schema-validated, verifiable by anyone, account-free, offline, built on CalConnect's Signatif framework. |
| 15:30 | s13 The identity federation | One account across the services: a single OpenID Provider, every platform instance a relying party, and members may run their own provider from the same software. |
| 16:00 | s14 The trust registry | The public registry of who may sign what: each organization's signing keys and its standing, resolvable in one anonymous request. |
| 16:30 | s15 Dataspace and interop: the standards map | The program speaks the neighboring standards rather than replacing them. Every interop artifact is a projection outward from the authoritative model, never a competing source. |
| 17:30 | s16 One codebase, four postures | The CS-operated hub, an IA-only instance, a TL-only instance, the combined IA+TL instance: the deployment profile decides, and a member starts at the size that fits. |
| 18:00 | s17 The committee decides; the text stays | The adopted text is the source. The model derives from it with clause-level provenance, computes verdicts, and records who decided what. The legal acts stay exactly where the law puts them. |
| 18:30 | s18 Start where you are; grow when ready | Reading costs nothing, participating costs an account, self-hosting is one deployment under your category's entitlement. Nothing is retired until your regime is satisfied. |
| 19:00 | s19 Two asks of the committee | Pilot members, and honest feedback. Everything you saw is running today; the doors are open. |
The per-slide notes
The talk track for every slide, what to click, and what carries the moment when the network does not.
Frame it in one breath: the OIML-CS certification chain, running as software, with the committee's text still the source. Say the honesty rules up front: the demo is simulated, the futures are labeled, and every claim on every slide links its proof. If the room has no network, every demo moment below shows its dated capture instead.
Say it kindly and mean it: the current system works, and the people in it are careful. The problem is structural: every hand-off re-keys information, and every re-keying is a chance to drift. No blame in this slide; the room should recognize their day, not feel criticized.
Thirty seconds on the whole picture: the Recommendation model is the single source at the center; the platform derives the workflow surfaces from it; the services (identity, vocab, AI, status) stand beside it; member instances run the same codebase in their own postures; the public surfaces (register, verification) answer without an account. Do not read the diagram box by box; the derivation arrows are the message.
The tour's first live moment. Click into the wizard as the Applicant and dwell on the instrument step: the form was not designed by a programmer, the R 60 model authors it, clause and all. No network: the dated capture shows exactly that step. The full narration is walkthrough 01.
Live: Sign in as the Applicant, open the new-application wizard, pick R 60, and watch the instrument step render from the model. Fallback: the dated capture on the slide (2026-09-01).
Advance: The submit lands the story on the authority's desk, and the application's page never stalls there: its waiting card's Advance control drives the authority's real act — "the Issuing Authority reviews the application and requests the samples" — the audit trail naming you, the presenter, with the role advanced.
The same submit from the other side of the desk. Live: the Issuing Authority account, the review queue, and if the room wants it, the reject-with-reason (the instance resets nightly, so perform it freely). The evaluation project is the word to land: the shared dataspace, not an email thread.
Live: Sign in as the Issuing Authority and open the review queue; the waiting application is flow 01's submit, seen from the other side. Fallback: the dated capture on the slide (2026-09-01).
Advance: Once the samples are requested, the review waits on the applicant's shipment; the review page's Advance control drives it — "the applicant ships the requested samples" — and the authority's story continues from the same screen.
The metrologist's slide. Live: the laboratory console, the model-driven run; the point is that the bench software reads the same model the Recommendation authors, so two laboratories cannot run two different R 60s. The report is generated from the captured evidence, which ends transcription at the hand-off.
Live: Sign in as the Test Laboratory, open the accepted request, and step the model-driven test run at the bench. Fallback: the dated capture on the slide (2026-09-01).
Advance: If the samples still sit with the authority, the request page's Advance control drives the custody move — "the Issuing Authority dispatches the samples to the laboratory" — and the run starts. For the authority-watching lane, the project page carries the counterpart: "the laboratory completes the work and returns its test report".
Two acts, two truths: the platform computes the verdict from the model, and the authority decides; the certificate is data, signed, and the register is public. Live: open the register with no account at all. Governance-sensitive rooms: this slide is where you say the legal acts never moved.
Live: Open the public register (no sign-in): the BIML-registered certificates, browsable by anyone. Fallback: the dated capture on the slide (2026-09-01).
Advance: A stalled review period closes live from the participants' side: the project's Advance control resolves the open threads and takes the authority's decision — "the Issuing Authority resolves the review threads and accepts the test report" (the evaluation report's own beat reads the same way).
The payoff slide, and the 5-minute cut's second live moment. Verification is the surface every constituency shares: the manufacturer's customer, the inspector, the member state. Live: the verify page, the demo certificate number, the ACTIVE verdict. If you show only two live moments all day, make them s04 and this one.
Live: Open the verify page (no sign-in) and enter R60/2021-A-EX1-26.01: the verdict, the registration, the revocation and suspension checks. Fallback: the dated capture on the slide (2026-09-01).
Advance: The journey's spine never waits on the authority in a demo: the application page's Advance control drives the receipt and the acceptance — "the Issuing Authority receives the samples and accepts — the Evaluation Project opens".
The foundation claim: the model is not a copy of the Recommendation, it is derived with clause-level provenance and the text stays the gate. The numbers on this slide come from the model itself. Two section pages carry the depth; link them, do not summarize past them.
The future, labeled as the future. One minute, no more: the twin is where continuous compliance comes from, and the slide says plainly that it is SMART+. Committee members should never be able to say the tour blurred vision into present.
The bridge between present and future: the SMI Simulation is live and carries the classroom and the demo, while its production role is roadmap. Say both halves exactly that way.
One message: the certificate stops being a picture of a decision and becomes the decision, signed. The export formats answer the interop question before it is asked; s15 opens that map fully.
Short and practical: one account, per-organization approval, and the federation posture for members who must keep identity in their own custody. The live service page carries the performed evidence.
The quiet slide that makes verification work: keys and standing, public, anonymous to resolve. The negative proof is worth saying aloud; it is the program's honesty doctrine in miniature.
The interop position in one slide, for the members who arrive worried about a walled garden: the map is public and boring on purpose. Name the standards slowly; they are the answer. The page carries the plane-by-plane table and the fidelity bookkeeping of every export.
The sovereignty and cost answers land here: custody never has to move, and the minimal posture is one service-class deployment. The two pilots are live; the links are on the slide for the room to try later. The matrix page is the quotable reference.
The governance posture, said plainly and without haste: the committee adopts text, the model derives, the platform computes and records, the authorities decide. Gradualness is a design property, not a promise. This slide and s19 are the two the committee should remember.
Adoption as a ramp, not a jump: read, reproduce, pilot, self-host, each step optional and reversible. The entitlement matrix is the single source every page quotes; do not paraphrase it from memory, open it if asked.
Close on the two asks, slowly: pilot members (name the shape: one Recommendation, one authority, one laboratory) and feedback (the address is on the slide). Point at the one-pagers for the members who were not in the room. Then stop talking and take questions.
The rehearsal record
The full tour was walked end to end twice on 2026-09-01 against the built site and the live services: all nineteen slides rendered at their deep links, and every live URL the slides carry answered 200 on both walks (GET, following redirects; the earlier HEAD pass agreed). Nothing broke; nothing was fixed between the walks.

* the login URL's walk-1 reading is the cold first hit of the run; the HEAD pass measured it at 111ms. The section pages the slides link (the technology pages, the deployment matrix, the walkthroughs, the entitlement matrix) were verified 200 against www.oimlsmart.org in the same session, and the tour's own pages are asserted by the site's e2e suite on every build. The seven one-pagers were print-verified in the same rehearsal: each renders exactly one A4 page under the browser's print.
The scripted walk itself: every slide addressed at its /tour#sNN deep link, the active-slide state asserted, the live URLs collected from the slides' own markup (never a re-typed list), then fetched. Walk 1 total 13.8s, walk 2 total 2.3s; zero failures on both.
Where the pieces live
Nineteen slides at /tour; /tour#s07 addresses slide 7 directly.
The seven per-audience one-pagers; each prints exactly one sheet.
The five flows narrated step by step, with their own presenter scripts, when a flow needs more than its one slide.
info@oimlsmart.org: the address the ask slide gives the room.
The notes read the same source as the deck (src/data/tour-slides.ts in the site repository): slide titles, ledes, talk tracks, and cut timings can never drift apart. Rehearsed and link-verified 2026-09-01.
