These terms govern your use of the OIML SMART services: this website (www.oimlsmart.org), the identity service (id.oimlsmart.org), the platform instances, the AI assistant (ai.oimlsmart.org), and the status page (status.oimlsmart.org). The services are operated by the OIML SMART programme, a programme of the International Organization of Legal Metrology delivered by Ribose. By using the services you accept these terms.
What the service is
The platform is software tooling for the OIML Certification System (OIML-CS), the system defined by OIML B 18 for issuing, registering, and using OIML certificates and type evaluation reports. The platform records applications, runs structured test and evaluation workflows, computes results from the declared criteria, and formats the reports and certificates the workflow produces.
The platform is the scheme’s tooling, not the scheme. Determinations, designations, and certificates remain the acts of the responsible OIML-CS participants: issuing authorities, test laboratories, and the Management Committee, acting under OIML B 18 and the applicable Recommendations. Software output does not override those documents, and a record in the platform is evidence of the workflow, not a substitute for the governing decision.
The demo instances
Demo instances are clearly marked. They carry fictional data only: fictional instruments, fictional organisations, fictional people, fictional certificates. Nothing on a demo instance produces a real decision, a real certificate, or any real-world effect. Do not enter real data on a demo instance, and do not present demo output as a genuine certification artefact.
Accounts
Some services require an account at the identity service. When you hold one:
- provide accurate information and keep it current;
- keep your credentials confidential (passkeys and authenticator apps are available and encouraged);
- you are responsible for acts taken under your account;
- organisation roles are granted and revoked by your organisation’s administrators, and they speak for the organisation, not for you personally.
We may suspend or disable an account to protect the service, its users, or the integrity of the certification record. You may end your account at any time from the account console.
Acceptable use
Use the services lawfully and within their purpose. Do not disrupt the services, probe beyond the published interfaces and quotas, misrepresent identity or organisational authority, or present software output or demo artefacts as official OIML acts. The AI assistant’s quotas are part of the service: the anonymous, member, and API-key tiers carry the limits stated in its documentation.
Content and licences
OIML publications, Recommendations, and the OIML-CS framework documents remain the property of OIML, used here under the programme’s mandate; the official texts govern. The program’s software is developed under the oimlsmart organisation on GitHub: each repository carries its own licence, and that licence governs the code. Unless a repository or document states otherwise, content on the sites is © OIML and code is © Ribose.
Your workflow data remains yours or your organisation’s. You grant the service the rights it needs to store, process, and display that data as the workflow requires, and to anchor digests of signed documents as described in the privacy policy.
The AI assistant
The AI assistant answers from the indexed OIML publications and states its citations. Its answers are informational: they help you find and read the governing text, and they are not metrological determinations, legal advice, or official OIML positions. Where an answer and the official publication differ, the publication governs.
Availability and warranty
The services are provided as is. The status page states the measured availability honestly, including when it falls short of the stated objective; those measurements are information, not a warranty. We aim for continuity and we publish our incidents, but we do not warrant uninterrupted service.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the services: lost data, lost profits, interrupted business. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. The division of labour stated above applies here: certification decisions and their consequences belong to the scheme’s responsible participants, and demo instances carry no real data and no real decisions.
Changes
These terms are versioned in the site’s public repository. Material changes are announced before they take effect; the date at the top states the current version. Continued use after a change takes effect accepts it.
