OIML B 18:2025

The foundational document establishing the rules, structure, and governance of the OIML Certification System (OIML-CS). Replaces the 1991 Basic Certificate System and the 2005 Mutual Acceptance Arrangement (MAA).

B 18 establishes:

  • The scope of the OIML-CS, which categories of measuring instruments are covered.
  • The roles, Issuing Authorities (IAs), Test Laboratories (TLs), Utilizers, Associates, Applicants/Manufacturers.
  • The two schemes: Scheme A (accreditation/peer assessment based) and Scheme B (self-declaration based).
  • The Declaration mechanism by which Member States and Corresponding Members commit to participation.
  • The Management Committee that governs the OIML-CS.
  • The relationship to the BIML (Bureau International de Métrologie Légale).

SMART connection
