From the document to the machine

The OIML Recommendation has been published as a document: the metrological and technical requirements for an instrument family, written for humans to read and laboratories to interpret by hand. Every test laboratory translates the same clauses into its own worksheets, and every translation drifts. The Recommendation says what the instrument must do; nothing in the document can check that anyone read it the same way. The SMART Recommendation is the machine version of it.

What the model keeps from the document

A SMART Recommendation is not a replacement document. The prose stands; every modeled element carries its clause URN back to the publication, so a reviewer can walk any requirement, test, or form field to its sentence in the source. The model is the same Recommendation, machine-readable — the document remains the authority of meaning, the model is its executable expression.

The corpus today

R 60 (Load cells) is the only Recommendation with an official SMART model — the pilot's reference. The others are demo models, built to show the method on other instrument families. They are not official, and their content is illustrative.

The OIML Certification System — the B 18 framework and its PD documents — runs end-to-end on the modelled R 60 path, from application to certificate.
